Moving Into a Smaller Home: Measure Before You Choose
Moving Into a Smaller Home: Measure Before You Choose
A smaller home can work well when its layout supports the things you need to keep and use.
Start with an inventory of important furniture, equipment, and stored belongings.
Measure the pieces that affect room arrangement, then compare them with usable wall space and circulation routes in each property.
Look at closets, pantry space, garage storage, and access to any outbuildings.
A home with less square footage may function better than a larger one if the space is arranged effectively.
Also consider the maintenance you are trying to reduce. A smaller interior paired with extensive landscaping or several structures may not accomplish that goal.
Avoid making the decision solely from total square footage.
The practical question is whether the home supports your daily routine and storage requirements within the ownership budget you want.
