Should You Remove Furniture Before Listing Your Home?

Should You Remove Furniture Before Listing Your Home?

Removing furniture can make a room easier to understand, but emptying every space is not automatically the best approach.

Start by looking at movement through the home. Large pieces may block doorways, windows, storage, or important features.

Consider whether the remaining arrangement explains the room’s size and function.

An unusually shaped room may benefit from enough furniture to show how it can be used. Another room may need fewer pieces to reveal its layout.

Discuss the photography plan before paying for storage or moving services.

Keep essential access clear for showings and inspections, including utility equipment and storage areas.

If the home will become vacant, plan for cleaning, maintenance, and regular checks.

The purpose is to help buyers evaluate the property rather than create an unrealistic impression.
