Buying a Single-Level Home on the Oregon Coast: Look Beyond the Listing Label
Buying a Single-Level Home on the Oregon Coast: Look Beyond the Listing Label
A single-level home can offer a convenient layout, but the description does not explain every change in elevation. Before buying on the Oregon Coast, look at the entire route through the property.
Start where you will park. Are there steps between the driveway and entrance? Does the garage connect directly to the interior? Check thresholds, walkways, and the route to outdoor areas.
Inside, look for sunken rooms, raised additions, narrow doorways, and changes in flooring height. Measure spaces important to your intended use rather than relying on photographs.
Bathrooms deserve particular attention. Examine door clearance, shower entries, fixture placement, and available turning space. If modifications are important, obtain professional advice about feasibility and cost before assuming they will be simple.
Also consider maintenance access. Heating equipment, storage, and laundry facilities may be located in areas reached by stairs even when the main living space is on one floor.
The most useful home comparison focuses on the actual features you need. “Single-level” is a starting point, not a complete description of accessibility or function.
